ORIGINAL ONLINE MASTERINGHOW IT WORKS: HINTS AND TIPS For best results I suggest using uncompressed WAV files. They may take longer to send and receive but they will preserve the quality of your recording. A lot is talked about data compression (not to be confused with audio dynamics compression) and, of course mp3 compression is used extensively for music delivery to end-users but at earlier stages in production mp3 should really be avoided. There are lossless compression formats which can be acceptable and to read more about these click here. Finally, unless you're absolutely sure a,bout the quality of your own equipment I strongly suggest that you don't apply overall dynamic compression or limiting to your mix. You may feel it needs it, and you may well be right, in which case I suggest you send an mp3 file of your compressed version to illustrate what you think, but send the uncompressed version for me to work on. |
